The Angolan Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, revealed that the energy crisis caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine will not affect Angola.
João Baptista Borges ensures the existence of hydraulic reserves to meet demand, as the country produces more energy than it consumes.
For the Minister of Energy and Water João Baptista Borges, this is not a concern for Angola, but it is recognized that one of the major problems today is the lack of a national grid connecting all the province of the country.
The Governor indicated that out of the 6,000 megawatts installed, consumption did not exceed 2,000 megawatts, leaving about 4,000 megawatts of thermal and hydroelectric energy in reserve.
“In terms of energy, we are currently in excess. We produce more energy. In terms of capacity, we have installed 6,000 megawatts and our consumption does not exceed 2,000, so we have about 4,000 megawatts of thermal and hydro backup. Currently, our problem is the lack of a national electricity grid that connects all the provinces of the country,” emphasized João Baptista Borges.
For natural gas, the Minister promised to invest more in the field as butane exploration will soon be carried out in the country, while stressing the importance of solar energy in producing from the light.
“We need to introduce other sources, so we are introducing solar as an energy source that allows us to diversify our matrix. Natural gas is another big source, and since gas exploration will soon take place in the country, we will definitely invest in natural gas,” said João Baptista Borges.
