Over the years, EastEnders actors have had a number of romantic relationships off screen with each other.
We can all remember Phil and Lisa’s complicated marriage or the fling Lauren had with Tyler Moon on the soap itself, but did you know that some stars also dated one another for a while away from EastEnders?
My London takes a look at some of the romantic endeavours between co-stars you may have forgotten about.

Nadia Sawalha and Marc Bannerman

Loose Women presenter Nadia Sawalha played Annie Palmer on EastEnders from 1997 till 1999.
She dated her EastEnders co-star Marc Bannerman who was Gianni on the soap for three years before they decided to break things off.
She is now happily married to her filmmaker husband Mark Adderly.
Lucy Benjamin and Steve McFadden
The pair did in fact date!

Who doesn’t remember the relationship between Phil and Lisa?
The pair, Lucy Benjamin and Steve McFadden, weren’t just a couple on the soap but also had a relationship off screen, dating for four year.
Steve is now with partner Karen Cairns while Lucy is married to Richard Taggart.
Kara Tointon and Joe Swash
They played siblings on the soap so not weird at all

Kara Tointon and Joe Swash played siblings on-screen as part of the Miller family.
In real life the pair dated for two years from 2008 to 2010.
The couple have now moved on as Kara is currently engaged to Marius Jensen, and the pair have a child together. Joe is now a father to son Rex with partner and Loose Women presenter Stacey Solomon.
Shona McGarty and Matt Lapinskas
We wish it lasted longer!

The couple who played Whitney Carter (Shona McGarty) and Anthony Moon (Matt Lapinkas) began dating in 2011 after meeting on the soap.
They were together for 18 months but split after Matt’s exit from the show.
Most recently Shona dated musician Ryan Harris for six years, and the couple got engaged on Shona’s 26th birthday in 2018. However in January 2020 the couple broke up.
Shona explained: “We both came to the decision that, actually, this isn’t what we really want. It fizzled out and we weren’t the same people.”
Matt is currently single.

We may all know Amy Leigh Hickman for her short stint on EastEnders but did you know she dated beloved co-star and actor Shaheen Jafargholi who played Shakil Kazeemi?
The pair started dating after meeting on set in 2016 but it is unclear whether they are still together.
