A man who stole more than £8,000 of wine from Eataly in Bishopsgate was caught thanks to his eye-catching outerwear. Shahed Ahmed, 41, from Thrawl Street, stole 13 bottles of wine worth £8,100.75 from the Italian store in the early hours of February 9.
CCTV footage showed Ahmed stealing the bottles while wearing a distinctive jacket and hat. The following day, police officers arrested him, still wearing the jacket.
Ahmed was also found to be in possession of a small wrap of cocaine.

He pleaded guilty at Westminster Magistrates Court on February 11 and was sentenced the next day to 17 weeks in custody for burglary and possession of class A drugs.
City of London Police Detective Sergeant Gary Moore who led the investigation said: “Our officers quickly identified, located and arrested Ahmed from the CCTV provided to us from Eataly by using our links into the local community. The speed in which Ahmed was jailed sends a strong message to criminals in the City that if you commit offences, our officers will swiftly find you and arrest.”
