In brilliant news for fans of pastoral teatime television, Channel 5 has confirmed that All Creatures Great and Small will return to our screens this year.
The drama, which follows the adventures of the iconic vet James Herriot, was a huge hit for Channel 5 when it was revived last year with viewers praising the performance of Samuel West as Siegfried Farnon in particular.
Before the show, Samuel, 55, was best known as a theatre director and voice actor but considering his impressive heritage it’s safe to say performing was always in his genes.

Timothy and Prunella won the hearts of viewers in Great Canal Journeys

Samuel has some very famous parents in the form of Prunella Scales and Timothy West, both of whom are household names due to their TV work.
Prunella, 89, is perhaps best known for her work as Basil Fawlty’s long suffering wife Sybil in Fawlty Towers.
Meanwhile Timothy, 86, is an EastEnders’ favourite for his role as Stan Carter, who he played on the show between 2014 and 2015.
Stan was introduced as the father of regulars Shirley and Tina Carter and had several memorable storylines including Nancy’s troubling epileptic fit.
He was killed off in 2015, dying peacefully of old age in his daughter’s arms and urging them to put their family troubles behind them.

The couple married in 1963 and have three children including Samuel.
Recently the couple appeared together on a documentary series called Great Canal Journeys for Channel 4.

Series two of All Creatures Great and Small will feature six episodes with a Christmas special due to air over the festive period.
Channel 5 has yet to confirm when the new All Creatures Great and Small will be on TV but it is expected to air in the UK later this year.
